Surrounded by the central Andes Mountains, centenary trees, sprawling gardens, and working farms—Hacienda Bambusa is a charming, peaceful, gem in the southern part of the Quindio Coffee Region. You’ll feel at home immediately thanks to the authentic hospitality and be lulled into relaxation mode when you wake up to the sound of singing birds, buzzing hummingbirds, and watch butterflies flitting around the lush green foliage.
This magical place is owned by the family of Colombian Formula 1 racer J.P. Montoya, and the hacienda is also a working farm where coffee, cacao, bananas, avocados, and other tropical fruit grow. Conserving the traditional architecture of the region, Hacienda Bambusa has eight rooms—a mixture of room types and suites—and is built out of bamboo and clay. All rooms have air conditioning, a coffee station, an electronic safe, a shower, and an outdoor patio with views of the pool and gardens. There’s also a large main pool, spa, and free WiFi.
Fun fact: This stunning estate served as the inspiration for La Casita Madrigal in Disney’s Oscar-winning Encanto, so we mean it when we say it’s genuinely magico.
The food here is naturally outstanding—run by Luz Adriana Martinez. It’s fresh and made-to-order: traditional ceviche, empanadas, guacamole, fish, beef, tasty garlic sauces, and lots of fresh fruit. Many dishes are prepared with products cultivated right on the land, and the views of the countryside and mountains from the outdoor dining area are spectacular. Farm-to-table dining in its truest sense.
This region is known for adventure, and there are plenty of activities on the property. Included are nature walks, a walking cacao tour, mountain biking, and bird watching. Add-ons include a cooking class, guided birding walk, coffee or cacao tasting, horseback riding, and spa treatments.
Some fun activities close by include hot air ballooning, ziplining, and paragliding, as well as day trips to the countryside: Cocora Valley, Salento, and Filandia, where there is plenty of hiking.
