Luxury Uganda Safari: Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Time with the Batwa
Torn between the prospect of a classic East African safari and gorilla trekking on a luxury Uganda safari? Well, why not do both?
This four-night itinerary can form the start of a longer safari and while a gorilla trek is undoubtedly the highlight, you’ll also have the opportunity to engage meaningfully with local communities, including the endangered Batwa people.
Luxury Uganda Safari: 5 Days/ 4 Nights
Highlights of this luxury Uganda Safari
- This 5-day fly in luxury Uganda safari begins with an overnight stay at Hotel No. 5 in Entebbe
- Fly to Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, known for its exceptional diversity of flora and fauna – and, of course, the endangered mountain gorilla
- In the afternoon, you’ll visit the Batwa (pygmy) community and spend an incredible day hiking in the rainforest with elderly guides. Learn how the Batwa once lived and hunted, the medicinal plants they use, and how to watch for animals and birds. You will share a traditional meal, hear ancient legends and traditional songs, and join in on a mock hunting party
- Trek through rainforest and bamboo covered slopes in search of a mountain gorilla family. This is a sometimes strenuous and tough journey, but when you catch a glimpse of the gorillas any discomforts will be quickly forgotten. When sighted, you will spend one hour with them, observing their behavior and interactions.
$4,041-$4,684 per person sharing gorilla trekking permits included.
The minimum age for trekking is 15 years old
Add gorilla trekking to the end of your East African safari (flights from the Maasai Mara will get you to Clouds on the same day) or use Uganda as a jumping off point for an active adventure in Southern Africa.
